We are getting through the last of the weeks of winter but we still need our furnaces, especially during cold nights. There’s not a lot that is worse than turning in at night and realizing your furnace won’t turn on. If this happens to you, here are a couple things you can check yourself prior to calling Matz-Rightway.
Check Air Filters
You should change standard air filters every 30 days. If you do not, they can get clogged, obstructing air flow and resulting in your furnace malfunctioning.
Check Your Thermostat
Try turning the temperature up a few degrees to get the furnace to kick on. If the true room temperature is higher than the thermostat, the furnace won’t kick on. Also, confirm the system switch is on “heat” or “auto.”
Check the Power
It may seem obvious, but make sure the power switch next to the heating system is “On.” Even gas heating equipment uses electricity so make sure the breaker has not tripped and that the power switch was not accidently flipped to the “Off” position.
If you check all these things and your heating system will still not kick on, give Matz-Rightway a call at 631-406-9220 and we’ll come out and get you heating again as soon as possible.
